Social Infrastructure a Priority PDF Print E-mail
The 21 years of civil strife occasioned by the Lords Resistance Army (LRA) insurgency not only led to a great deal of suffering and serious infrastructural damage. Obalanga Sub-county in Amuria District is a clear instance of such destruction. The sub-county administration block was destroyed by the war. This block plays a major role in rendering administrative and security services. The Northern Uganda Rehabilitation Programme (NUREP) is supporting the reconstruction of the administration block.

According to Hon. Peter Opio, Vice Chairperson, Obalanga Sub-county, the support extended by NUREP is useful because a renovation will create an atmosphere for effective service delivery.

In a related development, NUREP recently conducted an extensive tour of Teso sub-region and during a meeting with grassroots leaders held in Obalanga Sub-county Mr. Gael Griette, Programme Manager NUREP, reiterated the organization’s commitment to working with partners such as local government to improve service delivery. The sub-county leadership appreciated the efforts of NUREP and implementing partners such as TEMEDO. During the visit, farmer groups in the sub-county received both seeds and farm implements, for the season. Most farmers expressed optimism that the support accorded to them would help in transforming their livelihood.
