| AVSI wins Photo Competition |

AVSI has won the photo competition among grantees for the first Call for Proposals. The competition launched in October 2008 targeted 8 grantees under the theme, “New Lives Through Peace and Development.” The winning photographs were chosen for their excellent approach to composition as well as an exhibition of good photography skills. According to the judges, “AVSI’s photos were captivating, and reflected the theme of the competition by showing hope for individuals as well as for their communities”.
MEDAIR scooped the first runners up position while DED was commended for their efforts in ensuring the visibility of the EU and Government of Uganda.The judges commended AVSI for a photo collection “giving a human face to what NUREP is doing”. AVSI is working in Kitgum District to improve the coping mechanisms and self-reliance of vulnerable youths between 14 and 30 years, such as orphans and vulnerable children, formerly abducted youths, school drop-outs, HIV/AIDS infected/affected youths and disabled youth. AVSI is also working with 480 vulnerable youths to improve their incomes through the provision of vocational training, kits and workshops. The competition sought for images that reflect the theme of the competition to provide a unique approach to the rehabilitation, peace and development process in Northern Uganda. In June 2009, two more competitions will be launched for the implementing partners under the second and third calls for proposals, culminating in a photo competition of the best photos from all the three competitions. |
