Districts will conduct regular self assessment on the implementation of the Peace Recovery and Development Plan (PRDP), Ms. Elisabeth Allimadi Ociti, the Commissioner for PRDP in the Office of the Prime Minister, has said.
Ms. Allimadi was speaking during the commissioning of Madi Opei Police Post in Kitgum District on 20th November 2009.
Ms. Allimadi was representing the Minister of State for Northern Uganda Reconstruction, Hon. David Wakikona at the ceremony also attended by H.E Ambassador Vincent De Visscher, the EU Head of Delegation to Uganda.
The assessment, she said, “will be a stakeholders’ forum at the district convened regularly to avoid/repeat the mistakes encountered under the NUSAF I”.
Launched in 2007, by President Yoweri Museveni, the PRDP is the overall framework developed by the Government of Uganda for rebuilding Northern Uganda and improve the livelihoods of the people following the end of the war. “It is just like the Marshal Plan after World War II”, Allimadi said.
The two leaders were conducting a tour of NUREP projects during which they commissioned Palaro Sub county Headquarters in Gulu worth UGX 174 million, Madi Opei Police Station in Kitgum District worth UGX 173 million and the office of the LCV Chairperson for Gulu District worth UGX 37 million.
Allimadi encouraged the people in the region to educate their children as a firm foundation for the future and sustainable development of this region. Speaking at the commissioning of Palaro Sub county headquarters, the Deputy RDC Gulu, Mr. Milton Odong, described the trend in this region as “irreversible and NUREP is very important in this process”.
During the tour, the commissioner and the ambassador visited Latanya Health Centre II in Pader District and Anwata Primary School in Lira District to assess progress of the on-going rehabilitation works at the two sites. They also interacted with beneficiaries of livelihoods interventions through OXFAM GB and Concerned Parents Association (CPA) in Kitgum and Lira districts respectively.
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mr. Okello Oryem, the LC V chairpersons for Amuru, Lira and Kitgum, the RDCs for Gulu, Kitgum and Adjumani, the chief administrative officers of these districts, journalists as well as the NUREP team participated in the tour.
