Northern Uganda Rehabilitation Programme has launched a Project Management Committee (PMC) Handbook. The Handbook, titled “Illustrated Construction Guide for Community Building Projects”, was launched in Kaberamadio District by NUREP Programme Manager, Mr. Reint Bakema. “The handbook, though primarily designed for NUREP’s PMCs, can be used by other projects undertaking construction in communities”, Bakema said. He revealed that as of April 2010, NUREP had trained 891 PMCs across the four regions of Acholi, Lango, Teso and Karamoja.

40 boreholes commissioned in Teso |

Northern Uganda Rehabilitation Programme has commissioned all 44 boreholes earmarked for support under the Post Floods Rehabilitation Programme.
According to Mr. Martin Wabwire, the Programme Officer/Planner for the Post Floods Programme, 27 were newly drilled while 17 were rehabilitated.
Speaking at the commissioning of 14 boreholes in Kaberamaido District, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mr. John Eresu noted that clean drinking keeps the population healthy.
Other beneficiaries are Katakwi District with 20 boreholes, Soroti with 6 and Amuria with 4. The boreholes are part of the € 1.4 million provided by the European Union to rehabilitate social infrastructure destroyed by the 2007 floods in Teso. |

Ambassador Vincent De Visscher tours NUREP projects Between 17th and 20th November 2009, the Head of Delegation of European Commission to Uganda Ambassador Vincent De Visscher toured NUREP projects in Gulu, Lira, Kitgum and Pader. During the tour, the ambassador together with the Minister of State for Northern Uganda, represented by the Commissioner for PRDP Ms. Elisabeth Allimadi Ociti, commissioned Palaro Sub county headquarters, Madi Opei Police Post in Kitgum and the LCV Chairperson for Gulu. The two officials also paid courtesy calls on the district leaders of Kitgum and Pader and made an assessment of on-going works at Anwata Primary and Latanya Health Centre II in Lira and Pader districts respectively.

NUREP 2nd Runners up in Visibility Competition Northern Uganda Rehabilitation Programme (NUREP) has scooped second runners up position in the 2009 EU Communication Trophy. Presiding over the award giving ceremony, the Minister for Information and National Guidance Hon. Kabakumba Masiko noted that communication is a sign of accountability. She noted that the NRM Government supports free press and democracy and a vibrant multiparty democracy system. She reiterated Government’s commitment to the access to information for everyone noting that access to information is a right for everyone in Uganda. The overall winner was the Human Rights and Good Governance Programme (HRGGP), while the Sawlog Production Grant Scheme was first runners up. Developing Human Resources for Health Project came in fourth. |

All IDP camps to close by March 2010 The Resident District Commissioner for Kitgum District, Mr. Omwony Ogaba has announced that all camps for the Internally Displaced Persons will be closed by 31st March 2010.
Mr. Ogaba made the revelation during a meeting with His Excellency Ambassador Vincent De Visscher, the Head of Delegation (HoD) for the European Commission to Uganda on 20th November 2009. The HoD was conducting a round trip monitoring visit to Northern Uganda Rehabilitation Programme (NUREP) funded projects in Pader, Kitgum, Lira and Gulu districts. According Mr. Ogaba, President Yoweri Museveni will officiate at the official IDP camp closure ceremony on 11th December 2009 in Kitgum.
